BOON Movie Review

If you love action films then this brand new, all-action sequel to the acclaimed Red Stone, will get your blood running. How do you kill a redneck? With a spoon of course. Watch out for the death by SPOONing. Yes a baddy literally gets it in the redneck.
From the get go to the very end the movie never stops with shooting and killing. Screen favourite Neal McDonough’s ice cold portrayal of Boon is like Steven Seagal and Chuck Norris rolled into a one-man army with ultimate martial arts and firearm skills. There is a great appearance from Jason Scott Lee (Dragon: – The Bruce Lee story) as an executioner named Killa. Neal Flanagan plays Mr Fitzgerald the mean bstrd in charge as a bad tempered Billy Connolly.
This BOON is not the vintage British tv drama series of the same name. In both the eponymous hero is a bodyguard and trouble-shooter, except in this movie he is much, much more badass. This film is a continuation of Neal McDonough’s BOON character which was first introduced in the film Red Stone (2022), also written & directed by Derek Presley.
The movie revolves around a widowed Catherine, who is busy trying to protect herself and her son from a local criminal gang. In spite of being a preacher she has been forced to ‘sell her soul to the devil’ and turn a blind eye to dodgy dealing criminals in remote back country of the Pacific Northwest. Nick Boon is lying low in a nearby cabin when their lives cross paths. He is trying to outrun his enemies… he’s also trying to escape his bloody and brutal past. They find themselves leaning on each other to protect everything they stand for and their lives.
The mother in the movie is Christiane Seidel, she does a great job of playing the victim. Spanish actress Christina Ochoa plays the pitiless nemesis in charge of a band of bearded burly baddies. Demetrius Grosse plays Agent Redd the Fed on the lonesome trail to bring retired enforcer Boon to justice.
The film is a little slow at the beginning but this is so that the ending makes sense. The movie is clearly inspired by old westerns like Shane and Hondo. The cinematography is awesome with a terrific music score and fun cast. Would be good to know where the baddies’ tunnel goes and why it’s such a big deal, but that’s a detail.
Some brilliant and fun action scenes, including one with a spoon in a man’s neck. Great little movie but you have to be patient to get the big payoff. Well worth a watch
